An Epic Hike on Corsica’s GR20

Bonjour, adventurers! Ava and Theo here, still buzzing from our trek on the GR20 trail in Corsica, France. Known as one of Europe’s toughest hikes, this rugged path through Corsica’s mountains was a thrilling challenge. From dramatic peaks to hidden pools, here’s our tale of sweat, scenery, and Corsican eats.

Setting Out on the Trail

We started in Calenzana, the GR20’s northern trailhead, with backpacks stuffed with essentials. The first day’s climb was steep, but the views of jagged peaks and Mediterranean blue made every step worth it. Theo led the way, humming French folk tunes, while Ava documented the wildflowers. The trail’s rocky terrain tested our stamina, but the camaraderie among hikers kept us going.

Trail Highlights

The GR20 is a rollercoaster of landscapes. We crossed suspension bridges, scrambled over boulders, and dipped our toes in emerald pools like Lac de Nino. The Cirque de la Solitude, with its sheer cliffs, was both daunting and breathtaking. At night, we camped at refuges, swapping stories with fellow trekkers under starry skies. The simplicity of tent life felt liberating.

Foodie Moments

Food on the trail was a delight. At Refuge de Carozzu, we savored chestnut bread and figatellu sausage, Corsican staples that fueled our hike. A local vendor near Vizzavona sold fresh oranges, their juicy sweetness a trail treat. Back in Corte, we celebrated with a feast of wild boar stew and Pietra beer, toasting our achievement at a cozy trattoria.

Why We Loved It

  • Stunning Scenery: The mountains and lakes were jaw-dropping.
  • Adventure Rush: The challenging terrain was exhilarating.
  • Foodie Joy: Corsican flavors added soul to the journey.

The GR20 is a bucket-list trek for hikers craving a challenge. What’s the toughest trail you’ve tackled? Share your stories below!
